Boy do I feel like a clod! I just wasn’t paying attention to fine details, which is surprising because I’m a fairly detail oriented person. However, this time, I just overlooked this. I was busy posting in various places on the web, leaving links to “My Inspiring Book Story…” not realizing that because I originally posted it in facebook, people who weren’t members could not access it, because they’d automatically be asked to log in. My Inspiring Book Story…
Well, I had a friend about two years ago, that was going through a rough patch. He wanted to see his son, but there were issues with the mother of the child, who refused to allow him to see the boy. He was very angry, upset, and despondent over the whole situation.
I was trying to think of a way to encourage him, especially because Father’s Day was approaching and I knew he’d be really sad on that day of all days. In addition, my son and I were dealing with the discovery barely a year before, of the loss of my ex; my son’s father, who had passed. Now, mind you, my son never had a real relationship with his dad, however, the Father’s Day that followed the news of this loss would be especially hard on him.
In thinking about both my friend and my son, I realized that I had a fatherless son, and a sonless father. I wrote a poem for that situation, which of course I cannot find at the moment to put in here. Nevertheless, I made it into a card for my friend. Inside the card I wrote this letter of scriptural encouragement.
Basically, I started looking through scripture for anything encouraging. I collected all the applicable scripture I found and arranged it into a letter of love and encouragement from God to the receiver, in this case, my friend. So the letter sounded like God himself wrote it to encourage my friend.
Since I was unsure how this would go over, I took it first to a girlfriend to check for reactions. She loved it, and immediately insisted that I must publish it. Then I figured, ‘okay, but girls are mushy that way; lemme see how a guy would react.’ So I had another male friend read it. He started crying on the first few paragraphs, and said, “I need this!”
And there it is. I was surprised at their reactions. I mean I’ve been writing for a while now, and actually wanted to get published, but it took five years from the inception of the idea about getting published, until I finally had the nerve to get out here and get my feet wet.
