  • The Holiday Activities

Last night we went to church, and the service was nice. Our church had service at 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm. My brother attended the 3pm service and said it  was packed. I attended the 5pm, and moms met us there. It was packed too. Mamita…my friend Gail, came for the 7pm…I kept our seats for her. That service wasn’t full.

When she…Gail met my mom, she said she thought moms was my sister, and said so. Of course, moms started tittering and told her that she is 70 years old. This was for effect, and it worked, as Gail was like, “Are you kidding?!?” Then she says, “Oh my gosh, you’re so gorgeous!” I told her that she made a friend for life with that comment. And naturally, when I saw moms today, she commented on how much she liked Gail. Even baby bro commented about how he “heard” that my friend was really nice and sincere. LOL.

So last night after we left church, I took lil man to La Bamba for some good mexican food, and then we took a drive and ended up in Hillsboro beach at the pier. I had never been on a pier and this one extended 700 ft into the water.

I really enjoyed just walking out onto that pier. When I got to the point that would be the farthest point that I’d go if in the water I started looking back at the shoreline because from that point on, it was like I was on a boat drifting away from the shore. The difference in perspective was interesting, as I’ve never been out on a boat on the ocean before, so this gave me a bit of a view of what the shore would look like.

I realized that going out on a boat was a serious step of faith, because you have no foundation under you. You are constantly in a state of flux. On top of that, there are numerous creatures of all sizes under you that you cannot necessarily see. You are subject to things that are completely out of your control in nature, and there is nothing to hold on to, or hide in or under once nature gets started. To me…that is an extreme step of faith.

Now there are people who go out there without God…and without faith. I can’t understand that. In some cases…some go out as fools…throwing caution to the wind. One such case…I guy told me about on the dock. He and his son went out  about 200-300 ft in a two man kiyak. They had some kind of fishbait hanging in the water bleeding, and were just fishing. The father catches something…feels it pull out a bit, and then starts reeling it in. It stops fighting then starts pulling out again. Then stops again. He thinks something is wrong and he’s right. A shark the size of the kiyak has come back to see who has snagged him and is bumping the boat. They start paddling like crazy for the shore, and cannot cut the shark loose because the line is tangled in the fishing bait. They finally manage to cut the line and break free of it, getting to shore, but I told him…”You’re crazy.” I can’t understand how they could go out that far in just a kiyak. That to me is not faith…but foolhardiness.

Nevertheless, the view from this pier was great. The moon was full and beautiful. The clouds formed two precipices…looking like great cliffs. I pictured God’s army of millions of angels coming up to the edge in waiting to rescue Christ at his command, which was never given.

After talking with a fishing family for a while, while lil man ran about with some kids trying to fish off of the side, we started to leave. I got some eye action from a cute guy…looked like a college preppy from someplace like Boston. It felt nice.

We then drove down A1A on the way back and saw some beautiful lights decorating the mansions along the coast. It was cool. So we had a nice night.

Hangin’ out at moms now. I wanted to go to the hospital to visit and do the makeovers on cancer patients, but they wouldn’t let me in if I wasn’t visiting a specific patient. They claimed privacy rights as the reason. Can you believe it? So now…you can’t even just visit patients without having some type of gov. red tape interfering.

So my day was ok. I was kind of bummed about not being able to do the hospital thing…and I wasn’t feelin’ the spirit of the season so much, as I was wanting the holiday to be about more than just going to moms to eat dinner. But…it ended up being kinda nice, because my brother is such a jokester. He kept us in stitches most of the night. Now he’s got us watching the PeeWee Herman movie. So I’m gonna go cause he’s letting me use his laptop at the moment, and keeps saying that my library time is up. Meanwhile, mom’s neighbor just came over trying to unload some of “Christ’s birthday cake.” We were on to him however, and he went away trying to find someone else to “share” the cake with because he doesn’t want it in his stomach. Moms just said she watches PeeWee all the time on the British station. That’s Mr. Bean! Then she says, “You mean I’ve been watching Mr. Bean all this time and you all couldn’t tell me?” LOL. Peace and blessings.
