  • God’s Power, Authority & Might

    Hi All,

Well lately, God has been impressing me with a few thing…enough for a little bit of reading on your part, should you be interested.

First of all…bits of a conversation of Job’s caught my attention:

    Job 38:4
Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding.
    Job 38:5
    Who determined its measurements?
    Surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
    Job 38:6
To what were its foundations fastened?
    Or who laid its cornerstone,
    Job 38:7
When the morning stars sang together,
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

This is the first thing that caught my attention. It absolutely blew my mind when I started to think about the foundations of the earth. I mean if one were building a model to scale they’d have to determine its measurements. They’d have to stretch a “line” or use a measuring stick. I mean…I’m thinking they’d start with prehaps a styrofoam core…maybe use some amount of paper mache for at least one layer…clay for another…but it’d have to reflect this:

    earthslayers copy

I mean I’m just thinking…with the big bang theory…how do they explain this exactitude in the dimensions…the layout…etc. I mean it amazes me the thought that went into all of this. I wonder how many lifetimes as we know it did it take in God’s formulation of this plan. Then I saw this:

    Job 38:8
Or who shut in the sea with doors,
    When it burst forth and issued from the womb;
    Job 38:9
When I made the clouds its garment,
    And thick darkness its swaddling band;
    Job 38:10
When I fixed My limit for it,
    And set bars and doors;
    Job 38:11
    When I said,
This far you may come, but no farther,
And here your proud waves must stop!’

Ok…so for anyone who was with me back when I was talking about the first cycle of 40 and the flood…you know that I found this:

    Earth's-mantle-

This is a mass of water that was recently discovered under the earth…enough, if I remember correctly to fill the Atlantic ocean more than once. It made me think of the foundations of the deep mentioned in Genesis about the flood.

So when I saw this in Job…I’m blown away, because…there’s actually a container…doors to shut up the sea and seemingly…an invisible harness in place that halts the sea’s progress at our shores. I just happened to be standing at the edge of the sea last night, and the winds were whipping about me, and the waves beating up to the shore, and despite the attempt by the waves to edge up a little higher…they were pulled back each time.

I remember sitting on the beach one time before…in the morning…and God and I were having this nice conversation…and at first, I looked out at the water and the edge looked like a straight line as always, but I was telling God how I thought we must resemble one of those crystal globes that one shakes up to see all the pretty glitter or snow etc. At that moment, He let me see the globe…He let me see the curve of the horizon and the fish bowl we are in and I saw the circle of our world and the sky. It was amazing.

    Job 38:16
Have you entered the springs of the sea?
Or have you walked in search of the depths?

So when I saw this…I imagined this underwater cavern with tremendous doors that were the gateway to the fountains of the deep…doors something like one might see in…

    mordor1

…the mountains of Mordor in the Hobbit series. As a matter of fact…I saw that same image with this next section.

    Job 38:19
Where is the way to the dwelling of light?
And darkness, where is its place,
    Job 38:20
That you may take it to its territory,
That you may know the paths to its home?

I remember when they had to go through the mountain…and that represented the dwelling place of darkness, so when I think of that, then I think of something like that but the opposite. In the animated Sinbad movie and even in one of the Pirates movies…they came to the end of the world and the ship sailed off of it. They were sailing towards a sliver of light. It is something like that which comes to mind here…because the container or dwelling place of that light in those movies is apparently so big as not to be even seen. It’s like the door is open just a crack…enough for you to get a glimpse but that’s it…and…it is, in both movies…across an unreachable chasym…yet of course….in those movies…the hero finds a way. I don’t see this happening in God’s realm however, this is the image that comes to mind about a dwelling place of light.

    Job 38:22
Have you entered the treasury of snow,
Or have you seen the treasury of hail,

There’s a treasury! Ok…so all of this makes me think that God is giving secret glimpses of the mysteries to some of these movie makers…and they don’t even know it. I mean…it’s not like we can dream up things that don’t exist as if they do. So on this one…I remembered…

    jamesgiantpeach

     ”James and the Giant Peach.

And note how most of these ideas I see and am associating with this stuff is from children’s movies or books. In “James and the Giant Peach there’s a point (for those who don’t know the story) in which he’s got all these seagulls tied to the peach and they are flying across the sky. At one point they run into the…

    cloud-men1

cloud men, who are angry seeing them, and stop storing up hail and snow, to reach into a store of lightning and throw it at them. Now granted…I don’t see cloud men in God’s kingdom, but I think you get the idea…it would be angels if anything, overseeing God’s storehouses mentioned in the verses.

Job 38:25  “Who created a channel for the torrents of rain? Who laid out the path for the lightning?

I liked this idea…in another translation it reads:

    Job 38:25

Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain,

and a path for the thunderstorm,

A channel. This made me see the sheets of rain that move across the sky. It was awesome…like a curtain held on a rod and being moved from one room to another…and this must be cut through the clouds. Wow. Further on it says…

    Job 38:37

Who has the wisdom to count the clouds?

Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens

    Job 38:38

    when the dust becomes hard

and the clods of earth stick together?

Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens? Whoa!Of course, my mind went to those huge decorated jugs that look like cultural artifacts…jugs too large for any one person to move let alone lift, even if it were empty. Jugs that would require the type of labor that went into moving bricks to build the pyramids…with contraptions and trolleys for men to move it. Then he mentions the stars…

    Job 38:32

Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons

or lead out the Bear with its cubs?

It also mentioned Pleiades and Orion, but I’m not up on what these names represent other than some star formation so I didn’t focus on them. However…I know a little about the bear and her cubs…that this represents some constellation of some sort. It facinated me to find this basis of astrology mentioned here. What is more mindboggling, is that men study that science, yet don’t study the One who created the objects of that study.

So all of the wonders of God’s might and power listed here in Job…I was pretty spell bound with. I want to go back sometime in the future and study the animals listed at the end of chpt 38 and into chpt 39. However, one stood out. The reason I want to study them is that I am fascinated with how much of God’s character I can find in nature, and then again, how much of man’s character can also be explained in the habits of certain animals. For instance…

    Ostrich

    Job 39:13

“The wings of the ostrich flap joyfully,

but they cannot compare with the pinions and feathers of the stork.

    Job 39:14

She lays her eggs on the ground

and lets them warm in the sand,

    Job 39:15

unmindful that a foot may crush them,

that some wild animal may trample them.

    Job 39:16

    She treats her young harshly, as if they were not hers;

she cares not that her labor was in vain,

    Job 39:17

for God did not endow her with wisdom

or give her a share of good sense.

    Job 39:18

Yet when she spreads her feathers to run,

she laughs at horse and rider.

What impressed me about this is…I know of women who abuse their children like this…that don’t care about them…who’s level of selfishness and self-centeredness always left questions in my mind about how can they have so little regard for their children. How can they think that getting their hair and nails done is a priority over the care of their kids? This explained it for me.

There’s more God’s been showing me…but this is enough for the moment…cause I could write a book…literally. So until we meet again…peace and blessings.
